The History of Ladac

The Lilongwe and Districts Angling Club (LADAC) has been around since 1990 and is based in the Salima area on Lake Malawi . There the members have a clubhouse with a swimming pool and a great bar for members use.

Weigh-in is always a big event held round a concrete fish-shaped table. Due to the quantity of fish available and for the sake of fish preservation, LADAC has limited the number and size of fish per species weighable at competitions.

All anglers fishing on Lake Malawi covet hooking a Tsungwa or Sungwa. A difficult fish to catch, but also puts up a great fight, hence its other name “The Lake Tiger”. Other species which are available to catch are the Big Blue, a large member of the tilapia family, Liyani, and many other tilapia family members.

LADAC hosts the annual Lake Malawi International Tournament, which has, in the past, been attended by the national South African Artificial Lure team and the Zambian national team from outside Malawi , and SoRAC from Malawi . This is a wonderful annual event with much hype, excitement and organisation surrounding it.
